Dmitry Rogozin: “Russia and Georgia will find ways of reconciliation”

Dmitry Dogozin, Russia’s Ambassador to NATO is sure Russia and Georgia will find the ways of reconciliation. Rogozin made a statement about it in Munich, where annual security conference is underway.

“Let’s be realists. Certainly, the reconciliation will be achieved; it would be better to happen as soon as possible. We are two orthodox countries historically related to each other. Russia and Georgia will find the ways of reconciliation in future in order to live peacefully”, - Rogozin explained.

According to him, the guarantee of Russia-Georgia reconciliation is Georgian Diaspora in Russian Federation.

“The guarantee of our reconciliation is Georgian Diaspora in Russian Federation. That process must simply be facilitated not looking from the outside position”, - Russia’s Ambassador to NATO added.

Unfortunately, Mr Rogozin did not say how he thinks this should be done. The Georgian side has been waiting for the departure of Russian troops from the occupied territories of Georgia. The first step should be to stop placing rocket installations in those territories and overall militarization there. At the very least, the Georgian refugees should be allowed to return to their homes. It would be too bad if Mr Rogozin is counting on reconciliation without these steps being taken first.
