Discrimination of citizens in Abkhazia

TBILISI, GEORGIA - Georgian Speaker has commented on the ongoing discrimination and violation of rights of Georgian nationals in Georgia`s occupied region of Abkhazia. Davit Bakradze considers the process of confiscating real estate from Georgians on the occupied territory as illegal.

"The process of so-called returning of the real estate to the owners is absolutely illegal, as in Abkhazia, which is today an occupied territory and where mass ethnic cleansing of Georgians was carried out, restoration of rights to property can`t even be mentioned until the occupation is finished and all people get back to their homes. Therefore, the process is absolutely illegal, although the fact that in this unlawfulness another decision has been adopted on dividing people according to their ethnicities, re-affirms the character of the governments located in Moscow as well as Sukhumi", Davit Bakradze said.

Local TV station in Abkhazia reported on Thursday that Any person, who is Georgian by origin but has the citizenship of other country, will be considered `right less` in Abkhazia. Therefore, the real estate will not be returned and `legalized` even to those Georgians, who have the citizenship of other countries.
